Chapter I

THE BEGINNING

Domaine Pascal was founded in 1932 by Henri Pascal, who assembled its first parcels across the slopes of Puligny-Montrachet. For three generations the family made wine that rarely left Burgundy, never large and never trying to be. What passed down was less the land than the reading of it: which parcels ripen first, which hold acidity, which reward waiting. By the time it reached Joseph, the domaine was six hectares of village and Premier Cru holdings, known entirely by word of mouth.

THE HANDOVER

Joseph grew up in the cellar and trained away from home — a season in the Mâconnais and two harvests abroad — before returning in 2014 to take it on. The handover wasn't a single moment but four vintages worked alongside his father, the two of them making the same wines side by side until the decisions quietly became Joseph's. Those overlap years are the heart of the estate's story: not a break with the past, but the same hands on the shears, one pair older, one pair learning.

Chapter III

THE NEW GENERATION

Joseph is a maker who would rather perfect than reinvent. The changes under him have been small and deliberate — a conversion to organic farming completed in 2020, a step back on new oak, and the decision to bottle two lieux-dits separately — each one in service of clarity rather than signature. The result is white Burgundy of poise and restraint: precise, unhurried, built to age. The style is unmistakably a continuation, only sharpened.

In His Words

I inherited a way of doing things, not a set of rules. Most days I keep to it. Some days the vineyard asks for something else, and I have learned to listen.
