Here is the anticipated latest release of Tommasi's premium, high-end wine: the 2010 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva De Buris. This wine is crafted to be held to the highest standards, celebrating the family's long tradition of winemaking. The grapes are sourced from a 2.4-hectare parcel in La Groletta, where the calcareous clay soils, medium texture, and abundant rocks contribute to its character.
The blend consists of 65% Corvina, 22% Corvinone, 5% Rondinella, and 8% Oseleta. After five slow years of aging in Slavonian oak, only 8,392 bottles were produced. The wine exudes deep intensity, gradually revealing a bouquet of dark fruits, spice, leather, and earthy notes. It offers an elegant mouthfeel, with bright acidity and finely polished tannins—qualities that come only with time. Despite its age, the core fruit remains remarkably well-preserved, giving the wine a youthful vibrancy.
Among the three vintages released so far (2008, 2009, and 2010), this 2010 stands as the most exceptional.
Overt and fruity with assertive raspberries, bay leaves and roasted black peppercorns. The full-bodied, supple palate is warming, showing crisp acidity and tight yet ripe tannins. A bit sticky in the finish. Drinkable now but best from 2028.
Licorice root, clove, terracotta, sage, mint and pithy maraschino cherry, with a curb of herbal tannins bracing the long, warming finish. Impressive expansion and length to this highly regional, full-weighted expression. Very good Ripasso. Drink or hold.
The 2022 Valpolicella Classico Superiore Rafaèl wafts up with an inviting bouquet of fresh violets and lavender, giving way to blood orange and tart cherries. Cool-toned in feel, it has silky textures and polished red berry fruits that sweep across the palate, leaving a subtle mineral inflection toward the close. A saline sensation leaves the mouth watering for more as a slight tinge of citrus maintains freshness.
The 2024 Lugana Le Fornaci bursts from the glass with a pungent array of tropical citrus and florals complementing green melon. It entices with its fruit-forward personality, nicely offset by a tinge of sour lemon and salty minerals. The 2024 leaves the palate completely reset and aching for another sip as nuances of mint slowly fade.
Producer Notes:
A deep ruby red in color, on the nose it offers intense scents of ripe cherries and plums, which give way to lightly floral and ethereal aromas. On the palate it is full-bodied and well-structured. The soft tannins enhance the richness of the fruit, which is nicely balanced by the tangy and persistent finish.
This shows aromas of licorice, orange rind, herbs and espresso. Concentrated and full- bodied with polished tannins, some vanilla flavors, balancing freshness and a persistent finish. This spends some time in French barriques before bottling. Better from 2026.
