This reflects selections in early and mid-harvest of bunches that had turned pink or purple, some exhibiting the beginnings of noble rot and shriveling. Fresh lemon and tangerine on the nose signal the enhanced sense of bright citricity here vis-à-vis the corresponding Spätlese. Almond paste and quince jelly are present too, but the wine does not take on a dominantly jellied or confectionary cast. The finish is impressively sustained, and I would not be surprised if it were to reflect greater complexity once the wine has had a few years in bottle.
